OCM help take IKEA to new heights
When furniture retailer IKEA decided to expand its distribution in the UK, it looked to Ashton in the North West to alleviate some pressure off its Warrington and Leeds stores.

When a market leader in materials handling contacted OCM for assistance in installing high speed doors to their new complex conveyor system we were grateful to help. A total of 6 doors were required to work in conjunction with a multi level conveyor system carrying products to 3 different storeys.

All 6 doors had to be programmed so that no 2 doors on each level were open at the same time. The programme meant that the 2 doors on each level worked in chorus with each other ensuring a safe passage was formed once a product had passed through.

From the successful installation, the benefits and efficiencies in operation have been realised immediately
upon rollout. With faster turnaround times and increased productivity, the Ashton store can deliver up to
100-250 pallets in a 6hr shift rather than the normal 9hrs, which has resulted in good labour saving benefits
for the Ashton store.
